Metropol Hotel

New York City, New York

2016

A 40 room, 5-star hotel located in Tribeca in Lower Manhattan. The building is designed to be draped in a façade of sculptural, marble-tinted Taktl© concrete panels combined with brass-toned alloy panels and column enclosures.  While high resolution concrete is often used for its structural properties, this project sought to also capitalize on its unexploited ability to capture higher levels of detailed rustication than is typically possible in current concrete external wall systems. The ground floor contains two public restaurants with private dining mezzanines reserved exclusively for hotel guests. The lower floors are dedicated to a subterranean spa and daylit hammam that are connected by a dedicated elevator to the rooftop pool club and penthouse gymnasium, both of which feature sweeping views of the surrounding historic neighborhood. The building’s mass is seemingly elevated and through a change from a standard curtain wall language to one of high resolution cast panels at its halfway point, appears to float cloud-like above the neighboring buildings and streetscape.
